Frequently Asked Questions

What to wear?

Pilgrims should wear comfortable walking shoes, modest attire (no shorts, tank tops, sleeveless tops.)

What to bring?

Pilgrims are encouraged to bring their rosary.  Often pilgrims will bring a flower for Mary to lay at her feet on the bier (the frame stand) which we carry during the procession.  Some pilgrims bring colorful religious banners of their favorite saints, flags, or pro-life banners.  Some bring their own bottle of drinking water.

What about baby strollers, wagons, or wheel chairs?

Strollers, small wagons, and wheel chairs are permitted.  No skates, skate boards, or bicycles allowed for safety reasons.

Where do I park?

NOTE THAT IF PILGRIMS want to have their own vehicles waiting for them at the end point of the day, they should park before either shuttle leaves at QUEEN OF PEACE SHRINE, 800 NINTH AVENUE, PORT ARTHUR, TX 77642. The first shuttle, a 55-passenger bus, runs at 7:10 a.m. and the last shuttle at 8:15 a.m. to OLOG starting point.  This allows pilgrims to have the quickest access to their own transport waiting for them at the end of the day.

Parking is also available at the starting point, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 3648 Staff/Sgt Lucian Adams Blvd, Pt. Arthur, TX 77642 (intersection of Ninth Avenue and 61st Street) for the 9 a.m. Mass there.  Those who choose this option will be able at the end of the pilgrimage to ride the 55-passenger Hotard Coaches Bus shuttle back to OLOG, where they parked their cars.  Be aware this option may have longer wait times for the bus at the end of day.

What if I have car seats and strollers needed by my kids on the bus shuttle?

For those with children you should drop off one adult and children first with strollers/wagons at OLOG, then the driver alone proceeds to park at Queen of Peace Shrine BEFORE either the 7:10 am OR the 8:15 a.m. shuttle departure to take you back to OLOG.  Keep your car seat in your own car because the walk ends where you park at Queen of Peace Shrine.

Is there room on the shuttle bus for a wheelchair?

If it is a push wheelchair, yes. If it is an electric wheelchair, no.

Where do I park if I only want to go to Mass?

Park at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church close to their Parish Hall or as directed by Security Attendants.

Will there be an opportunity to go to Confession?

Yes, at OLOG before and during Holy Mass, pilgrims can go to Confession.

Will there be an opportunity after Mass later on the Pilgrimage to go to Confession?

No guarantee of an opportunity for Confession later on the Pilgrimage.

To what address does the shuttle deliver pilgrims that morning after we park at Queen of Peace Shrine?

After parking at Queen of Peace Shrine the shuttle, a 55-passenger Hotard Coaches bus, delivers you to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 3648 Staff/Sgt Lucian Adams Blvd, Pt. Arthur, TX 77642 (intersection of Ninth Avenue and 61st Street) where confessions can also be heard starting at 8:15 a.m. before Holy Mass at 9:00 a.m. there.

What about safety?

Official city police escorts provided. Van escort also provided.  Pilgrims should walk four persons abreast at most and follow directions of security personnel.  Children should be positioned on the inside curb side.

What if I can’t walk the whole way or get tired?

A van escort follows right behind the last walkers to be able to pick up any who stop walking, waiting to be picked up for that purpose. If or whenever their rest has been sufficient they can start walking again if they desire at the next stop or can continue to ride in the van to the end.

What if I need to use the restroom in the middle of the walk?

No problem, we’ve got you covered!  The van escort follows right behind the last walkers to pick up any who stop walking to wait to be picked up for that purpose.

Can I drive my own car instead of walk?

Those who prefer to drive their car in the rear of walkers are welcome to park at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church that morning before 9 am and follow behind the van escort vehicle.

If I want to drive my car, can I hear the audio of the pilgrimage’s prayers and talks?

Pilgrimage audio will be available on local FM radio courtesy of our DJ Sound Engineer.  The currently assigned 103.9 FM station may change from year to year, but can be learned from the rear van escort or the lead truck/car if that radio station cannot be heard.

What if I get a blister on my foot or sunburned during the walk?

The van escort has a small first aid kit available with basic supplies.  Just stop walking and wait to be picked up by the van escort at the rear of the line.

What time will the pilgrimage end?

The group picture is at the very end after the Final Blessing.  For various reasons the end time will differ, but generally it is about 4:00 p.m.

How can I get a copy of the group picture?

The group picture will be posted on the Pilgrimage website:

www.LmsBmt.com
